Ealing bids to become the Borough of Culture

12 December 2017

In West Ealing has supported Ealing Council to become the London Borough of Culture 2019.

In West Ealing recently attended the launch of a report at the GLA: Improving Places: Culture & Business Improvement District partnerships   The report presents examples of how Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and cultural organisations can work together to drive economic growth and help their communities thrive.  It includes examples of best practice to inspire BIDs and cultural organisations. It makes the case for even greater collaboration, and includes priorities for next steps as well as recommendations for BIDs, cultural organisations, and local and national authorities to help them work together more effectively.

Writing a letter of support for the bid, In West Ealing’s Chief Executive, Anna Elliott, wrote:

“InWestEaling Business Improvement District wholeheartedly supports Ealing Council in their bid for the London Borough of Culture. The BID knows that culture helps to create conditions where businesses can thrive, building pride in the neighbourhood and inspiring local talent.”

Ealing is one of 22 London boroughs to have made a bid. Success would mean a £1.1m revenue grant to deliver bespoke cultural projects across the borough. Since the competition was launched, Ealing Arts Forum representing local arts groups, venues and communities, have been key in discussing and developing ideas.
